Sugar Ball
Tickets are on sale for Sugar Ball! This is FAS^2’s annual themed costume party, where we get dressed up and play silly games until we fall over laughing. To fuel all this, we have copious amounts of food, both savoury and sweet. After all, it wouldn’t be Sugar Ball without the sugar!
This year, Sugar Ball is being held from 5.30pm onwards on Friday 24th April in the Members lounge. If you book before 21 April, tickets are $5 for Club & UMSU members, $8 Club or UMSU members, and $10 for neither. After 21 April prices go up by $2, so get in quick!
The theme is Fairy Tales, so start thinking about costumes now!
Send an email to fas2.mail.list@gmail.com to book tickets, and we hope to see you all there.

Watchmen
Our trip to Watchmen went ahead last Friday and was a great success. All tickets were sold in the end, so don't feel bad if you had to cancel at the last minute! It was an interesting movie...I walk away with mixed feelings. Great cinematography and use of music, but overall a mixed experience.
Thanks to all those who came, and if you couldn't make it, I hope to see you soon at one of FAS^2's events. If you have a suggestion on what that could be, let us know.
Cheers,
Thomas
Treasurer.
AGM
Hello all,
FAS will be holding its AGM at 1PM on Tuesday the 24th of March (i.e. Tuesday week), in Graham Cornish A. Details of the agenda has been emailed to members; If you didn't receive one, send us an email and we'll send one out. The short version is that we'll be:
a) Electing this year's committee - details of the positions are in the constitution;
b) Amending the constitution according to C&S requirements so that we can be legally classed as a not-for-profit group. This means we don't have to pay taxes on anything we do (yay!). It also prevents the committee from nicking club money for person profit (boo!), but that's a sacrifice we're willing to make.
And, once that's dealt with, there will be pizza! We will be getting some vegetarian pizza; if you have any other special dietary requirements, or just a particular kind of pizza that you'd like, let us know ASAP and we'll do what we can.

Meeting 17 March
FAS's next meeting will be at 1 PM this coming Tuesday, in one of the Graham Cornish rooms on the second floor of Union House (look for the dragon banner). We'll be discussing the use of protagonists and antagonists in sci-fi and fantasy fiction - common archetypes, good ways to use them, and pitfalls to avoid. If you plan on writing something yourself, it's a great opportunity to refine your ideas, and even if not, it's a chance to talk about published examples that you thought were particularly awesome or terrible. Come along, and have fun!

Week 1 Event - Bring a Book Day
I hope you enjoyed your holidays, and are ready for the start of a new year. Our first event of the semester will be Bring-A-Book Day - bring along a fantasy or sci-fi book that you like and tell us what it's about, why you like it, and why we should all read it. As well as a chance to expound on your favourite books and authors (and who doesn't love doing that?), it's an excellent way to find out about great books and authors you might not otherwise have heard of, and meet fellow fantasy and science fiction fans. And finally, there will be free food!
When: Tuesday 3rd March, 1PM.
Where: 2nd floor Union House, Graham Cornish Room B (or just look for the black and red dragon banner).
